ASSESSOR JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title Health & Social Care Assessor
Area Liverpool, London or Birmingham
Reports to Quality Performance Manager

 

Job Summary (Purpose)

Working in a range of workplace settings, you will be expected to facilitate the effective and efficient learning and assessment of learners undergoing Health & Social Care programmes of learning, and ensure that you are able:

  1. To assess VSS courses as agreed with your Line Manager.
  2. To contribute to curriculum development in your subject.
  3. To be responsible for improvement and Quality Assurance actions of your teaching and delivery, as identified in OTLA observations and 1-2-1 discussion.

Key responsibilities:

  • Act as an occupational assessor to groups of learners in order to train, review, monitor and assess learners. Provide prompt and constructive feedback to learners as soon as possible after any assessment.
  • To monitor, mark and assess learners’ work and progress and maintain such records as appropriate and prepare learners for assessment. To aim to return to work within 10 working days as appropriate.
  • To effectively manage your own learner caseload, you will assess and support learners through their Health and Social Care qualifications within their workplace. Manage your diary efficiently, to ensure regular contact with learners, and to ensure Awarding Organisation and funding requirements are met.
  • To understand and interpret the Awarding Organisation standards to ensure that learners meet the required standard to achieve the qualification.
  • Support the development of this area of curriculum provision. Make sure that assessment strategies used are diverse and inclusive (regardless of gender, age, origin, etc.) and are fair, reliable, current, and valid maintaining consistency in assessment decisions. Promote British Values and Prevent to service users.
  • To give subject specialist information, advice, and support to learners as part of assessment duties, including providing learners with advice on progression and development.
  • To maintain contact logs accurately at each visit (remote or face to face)
  • To keep learners’ records as required by VSS (Ltd), including initial assessment, Individual Learning Plans and progress records; exit info for learners leaving a course, wherever possible.
  • To monitor and evaluate courses and provide feedback to the Head of Quality and/or Curriculum department as requested, thus taking responsibility for the quality of your teaching.
  • Ensure that all equipment and facilities are used appropriately and safely.
  • To ensure that the post holder pays due regard to and fully supports VSS policies, including, Safeguarding Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety, DDA, Quality Assurance, etc, and carry out the duties required.
  • Attend and contribute to at least two staff and/or curriculum meetings per academic year and a minimum of one staff training day per academic year.
  • To assist with enrolment and recruitment procedures as appropriate.
  • To ensure continuing professional/curriculum development and to participate in training where appropriate, keeping up to date with your own subject(s) as well as national and local developments in adult learning.
  • To contribute to the VSS marketing, promotions, and customer standards whenever possible and provide feedback.
  • To support the Curriculum Manager in the successful operational management of the curriculum area.
  • To carry out other such duties as may be required from time to time by the Managing Director and Senior Management Team.

 

Essential Requirements
  • Qualifications in the subject specialism (to at least Level 3 equivalence), or in-depth knowledge and substantial experience in the subject area as specified in the job description.
  • Teaching qualification* appropriate for working in Post 16 Sector, and/or willingness to undergo further training. (A minimum of a level 3 teaching qualification / 7307 / PTTLS)
  • Hold a recognised Assessor Award (D32, D33, A1, TAQA)
  • Ability to work and communicate at the highest level, think strategically and meet KPIs
  • Literacy & Numeracy qualifications at Level 1 or above
  • Preferably hold a Level 3 qualification in Information, Advice and Guidance.
  • Good knowledge of IT-based systems
  • Experience in coaching/mentoring people with mixed abilities
  • Experience in teaching/training or working with groups of adults in appropriate fields.
  • An understanding of the principles underpinning teaching adults, i.e. planning, delivery, assessment, and evaluation of learning.
  • An awareness of different learning and assessment strategies and teaching methods suitable for teaching a diverse range of abilities.
  • Effective oral and written communication, numeracy, and interpersonal qualifications & skills to communicate effectively with staff and learners alike (to at least Level 2 and/or willingness to acquire appropriate equivalent qualification).
  • A commitment and ability to comply with safeguarding, Equality & Diversity, Health & Safety policies, etc.
  • * PTTLS would be considered an advantage for an applicant without a formal qualification, but all staff who are not formally qualified in teacher training will be required to undertake at least DTTLS within the first 2 years of appointment.
  • Maintaining a positive attitude that inspires co-workers and clients to grow the business
  • Adheres to the organisation’s code of conduct and contributes to team cohesion and productivity – representing the positive aspects of team culture and respectfully challenging inappropriate prevailing cultures.
  • Full UK driving licence and use of own vehicle

Variation Clause

This is a description of the job, as it is constituted at the date shown. It is the practice of VSS (Ltd) periodically to examine job descriptions, update them and ensure that they relate to the job performed, or to incorporate any proposed changes. This procedure will be conducted by the appropriate Manager in consultation with the post holder.
